Continuing on from Push Snowboarding R&D Roundup: Part One, here’s part two bringing us up to date with the progress of the Push Snowboarding team.
The team headed back out to Austria for the second snow test. With the sensor boxes shrunk in size and the discovery of much improved batteries, everything was beginning to transform into the Push Snowboarding kit we see today. The test runs the Push Snowboarding team conducted out in Austria went really well, with them capturing plenty of robust data from the sensors and the N8.
Whilst out in Austria, Clovis filmed a short preview of the data logger in action processing all five of the data streams in real time!
With the Burton European Open coming up fast, many different aspects of project were coming together, but as expected, there were still a few issues the team had to iron out.
Meanwhile, Clovis was busy on the phone side of things, working on report generation, cool graphics and a smart Air Time detector. We also got an exclusive sneak peak into the UI of an early iteration of the Push Snowboarding N8 Qt app.
With only a few weeks before we fly out to Laax, it was time to put on the finishing touches for look and durability of the prototype boxes. Waterproofing was a bit of a pain but in the end they managed to make them pretty much bulletproof, plus they looked awesome!
The team did some final bits of soldering and worked on syncing up all the technology and the visuals. Things were all coming together just in time to ring in 2011.
With one week left before taking Push Snowboarding to the slopes in Laax, Switzerland, the final preparations were underway. And a last minute discovery helped the team literally seal the prototypes so they’re ready for the first alpha tests!
We’re all really excited to head out to Laax and start putting the Push Snowboarding kit to the test at the Burton European Open! Stay tuned next week, we’ll have updates direct from the mountainside, more details on the kit, guest blog posts from Push blogger @mickyfin as well as the five R&D videos detailing each of the sensors! It’s going to be a busy week for Push Snowboarding and we can’t wait!
